Alice - The Musical

Back in 1986, Nichiren Shoshu of the United Kingdom (NSUK) put on a fabulous show - Alice. It still resonates in my head, and I will often find myself humming 'Dare to believe there's a song in your heart...' even now.

This is the whole thing - it was made on VHS but it was transferred to DVD

The musical was based upon Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. All the lyrics and music were written by NSUK members. It was a wonderful adventure that brought NSUK, en masse, to the general public

Personally, I (Laurence Hattersley) had the great pleasure of performing in the first Alice in 1986! I was one of the group of animals (as the front half of the elephant).

On reflection, all 'we had to do' was sing a song. We were just the 'front guys', the ones who were seen. But the vast majority of the work was done behind the scenes, making scenery and costumes, writing and performing music. Then, all that was brought together as 'Alice'.

Richard Causton was asked to the voice of the Cheshire cat. He even sang a song!

It's Here and Now

If you wish to see the whole show of Alice, you can find it here on YouTube

"Dare to believe there's a song in your heart,

Dare to believe in your dreams.

Nothing can stop you from playing your part.

As long as you dare to believe".
